A few thoughts....

I promise I'll have pics to post next week. A few days ago I took some stunning images of florals from my sister's back yard. You should see the peonies. Gigantic!!! They are quickly becoming my favorite flower. Also, my parents are coming for a visit and I've informed them they will be photographed. It's been a while for them.

In the meantime, I have all things home on my mind. I recently started to recycle paper (inspired by thrifty, recycling sister and the 900 catalogs I get in the mail each day). I did not realize how much we waste until I started saving it. Oh the shame! Also, this morning I signed up for the curbside recycle program through the city. 2000 people must volunteer before it goes into action. Let's hope they get the numbers. I think we can handle the additional $7 cost. It's worth being free of all this guilt. I am a consumer. I am wasteful. There I said it.

The truth is, for years I have had a reoccurring fear that when we die we will have to live with every single piece of trash we've ever thrown away. Can you imagine?

High Hopes

Why am I not posting? Well, I've got good intentions. Lots of photos/projects in the works, but I think I took on a little too much. Now L is very interested in the world (a.k.a. wants to be held, played with, paid attention too lots). Bye, bye hours upon hours of uninterrupted crafting and creating. That lifeless, sleepy newborn is now a thriving little one, keen on exploring her new world. Must be mommy now. Hoping sisters and "get-togethers" with friend, Courtney, will help keep me motivated with that looming pile. Must stick to new personal more additional projects until pile is done. That will be until December (not joking). ..... Husband will be happy that spending is halted.

Something new please!

Ok, I've had enough of babies (photographically speaking). Maybe it is because I am literally covered in puke stains right now and I'm feeling a slight rise of resentment. ha,ha,ha! :) No, actually it's because I'm just bored. I love L, but let's move on. Time to do some more stills. I've got some ideas in my head I need to get on film.

I like to refer to my sister's backyard as the Garden of Eden. And this is one of the reasons why....

Summer Days

Summer has officially arrived around here.
I love this photo. I love the light. The day felt just like this. And brings back so many memories from my childhood.

Found on the Street

OK, everyone. I'm posting these very sheepishly. I've talked about this before, but I actually worked up the courage to ask stylish strangers if I could photograph them. Jeff and I were out and about last week during his vacation and so I took a few shots.

found at Urban Outfitters, Gateway Mall, UT

Silver shoes

Side Note: There were two other people I wanted to photograph, but one (rocker girl working some killer cowboy boots) was seen while we were eating and the other (older guy in tweed blazer, very bright multi-striped shirt and flourescent orange tie) was on his phone and walking at mach speed. I thought it would be rude to interrupt, let alone catch up to him. Wish I would have though.

***By the way, Urban Outfitters has some very cool nooks and crannies to photograph in.

So Cupcake

Let me just preface this post with a little tidbit about myself. I love food. I love new flavors. I love to be surprised (culinarily speaking). And for a while now I have been telling Jeff that I think Food Network should have a show where regular people (myself and hubby) with absolutely no credentials or experience, but a genuine love of food travel around the world and critique meals. In my other life, the one where I am not a wife or mother I have the dream job of a food critic.

Anyway, I have been hearing about this great cupcake place on some local blogs and I've been wanting to give it a try. There's no denying I'm always up for sweets treats. It's called So Cupcake. I had such high hopes of biting into the most incredible cake I've ever had. Uh, nope. Unfortunately I was SO unimpressed. My chocolate cupcake was dry, dry, dry. And even that surprise hint of almond extract (a personal fave) could not save it. Jeff was equally dissatisfied with his Red Velvet. At $2.50/each these babies needed to blow my mind. I would have been more satisfied with the Betty Crocker mix. It would have been moist although a generic taste.

I wonder if we caught a bad batch because other reviews specifically talked about how moist the cake was. Anyhoo, our experience can be summed up in a few words: Cool story. Cute names. Pretty decor. Dry cake.

Although the snacks did not rock my world I did get a few cute shots of my two favorites:

{P.S. Here's my complete list of dream jobs. Just in case anyone is hiring:}

1. Textile designer (because I can never find prints I like at the fabric store)
2. Prop stylist
3. Window dresser for Anthropologie
4. Professional Blogger
5. Food Critic

and one more pic.....

Is it just me or am I looking O-L-D? I'm convinced it's due to the recent hair loss.

Blast from the past

I'm posting this for two reasons. #1 to show my sister (on the left) because we are about to make these dolls for our own little girls. #2 is because when I saw this picture I thought it looked just like Lauren. All this time I thought she looked like Jeff....

***Looks like we aren't the only ones who had these dolls. Here's a post on another blog about the very same article that inspired us.

Paint Time

This looks drastically different on the wall than it does in the can, but I think that is pretty typical of all paints.

Decisions, Decisions

This is the one:

I had the hardest time deciding on which family picture to enlarge for our living room. There are just too many I like which I guess is better than hating them all. And a 22x28" is such a commitment (LOL). This type of indecision is pretty rare for me so finally I had my friend at the lab decide for us. I just couldn't take it anymore. When I asked her why she liked this one she said, "it just looks like a happy family." Hmm... I can live with that. Jeff also liked this angle the best of all the prints. I like it too, but like I said, I liked a lot of them.

Here's where I hung it in our house...more pics to be added to this wall later.

Anniversary Pics

Reasons why Jeff rules (in no particular order):

1. He has an internal navigation system that blows any GPS out of the water
2. A friend to everyone. And I mean everyone.
3. Has mastered the art of conversation
4. His sense of adventure helps this "safe" girl experience a little more of life
5. Knows some sweet dance moves that I only I am allowed to see (as long as I don't make a big deal out of the fact that he is dancing. Draw too much attention and it's all over.)
6. Forgives me often and instantly
7. Has a way of easing the tension of any argument (Uh, I mean...we never disagree. hahaha)
8. Makes me laugh
9. He's always himself

Happy Anniversary, Babe!

Mother's Day

I know some mothers hate Mother's Day, but I was totally diggin' it today. I'm happy to be a new mom. Notice the corsage Jeff surprised me with. Haven't had one of those in years (since high school probably). I couldn't be happier because Lauren is so adorable right now. I can hardly stand it. Check out the video of her giggling (below). Love it!!! Someone said to me today, "this is the big payoff age". So true!

Here's to all the mom's who have gone before me. Specifically, my own mother and sisters. You are the smartest, bravest, coolest people I know. Let's hope our own daughters are even better. Happy Mother's Day!

{if you can stand my embarrassing "barking" it is worth the baby giggles}

6 YEAR Anniversary

Today Jeff and I celebrate six years of marriage. Last night we returned to the location of our first date. Dining at the Foundry Grill at Sundance. It was quite the event getting there. After running around all day and braving Sam's Club on a Saturday (big mistake) I was completely burnt out by the end of the afternoon. All I wanted to do was stay home and organize the food storage items I'd purchased earlier in the day. I know. Romantic isn't it? I felt bad for just wanting to stay home so after mustering up some energy it was time to find something to wear. Another big mistake. This post pregnancy bod....well....grrrrr! Nothing was working out. Meaning nothing was comfortable. Too tight (the most common dilemma these days), too short, too see-through. Already upset from the sausage-like feeling of my jeans, I reached for my lovely JCREW coat. Remember that one? I really wanted to wear it and feel great. So I put it on. But it was driving me insane!! Those stupid ruffle cuffs on the sleeves are beyond annoying. So in a violent rage I ripped them off (with a seam ripper, of course). Late for dinner? No matter. Those babies were getting gone, gone, gone. And then I felt much better. And it looks much better too. I think I will wear it more often now. And afterwards I thought to myself, "Ah! That felt great".

Well, my ripping and tearing did not give me something to wear, but I found another jacket and we moved on. Meaning, we left for dinner and had a nice evening. Lauren was a dear and the weather was gorgeous. (pics to follow).....

Old lady jewelry

If I were a pack-rat I would collect old lady jewelry and store it in pretty boxes. Just so I can stare at it. Instead, I have one piece. But sometimes I want to wear all my jewelry at once. Especially all the over the top ones. And then I remember that less is more.

I think this is going to be my new thing for a while: Color Studies. I'm a bit color obsessed these days. So here's the first of a series of 3-4 related images. As usual you can click to enlarge if you would like.

Reading with Dad

Jeff has decided it's important to teach the finer points of motorcycling at a young age....a very young age.

Sunday Shoes

Obviously she is not as impressed with her new shoes as I am.

This is when I wish we all had scratch-n-sniff computer monitors because these white blooms smelled like candy. Just incredible!
