A little project

I decided to create some photos featuring items that reminded me of Christmas...maybe a memory, tradition, or just the feelings in general. Some have no meaning at all. They are just lovely things. I don't know if I'll be able to make 25 total, but I'll see you tomorrow with the first few.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today we are stuffing ourselves and hanging with great friends. Hope you are too.

This one is pretty cute too

My favorite face

I'm weak

We are not hosting Thanksgiving this year so I couldn't help myself. I pulled out the Christmas Decor. The tree needs a lot of in more, more, more!

I got started on my shelves. There is still plenty of room for these:
feathered tree (a much smaller one)
Winter Pop-up book (take a peek inside. It's so cool)
This photo

Send your cards. I made room.

After all my ranting and raving about religious art it seems the cheesy tide might be turning. Most of the images from his book are way too literal for me, but this one (from Reflections of Christ) stopped me dead in my tracks. I need it. I must have it in my home. It's so thoughtful and clean and totally perfect!!! It feels like hope to me. That lighting and composition! Yes!

Thank you, Mark Mabry. You did it.

This is #1 on my Christmas list. Buy it here

Christmas is at the Greenhouse

Can you believe these PINK poinsettias? We went walking through my bro-in-law's work yesterday. I couldn't believe this new color they had. Someone needs these for their Christmas wedding.

Christmas Card 2008--Best of

So I pretty much can't decide. They aren't that much different so it really doesn't matter. I guess you'll see one of these when your card comes in the mail.

{thanks, Trav}

Evidence of my identity crisis

This is Sarah's house (sister's friend). I fell in love with her styling & visual texture. Doesn't it remind you of an Anthropologie location. Everything in this room has personal meaning to her. Most of the items belonged to her grandmother.
I have become majorly sentimental since becoming a mom so I was so amazed by that. I want to fill my own home (specifically the walls) with meaning. A slow, but steady work in progress....

These frames... travelled in a covered wagon. C'mon. That's pretty amazing.

I'd love to get my hands on a similar couch and reupholster it in some funky modern print.

"What's with the lighting?" you ask. (A mix of daylight and tungsten). I wondered how it would look myself.
My feeling about the results: very mediocre.

No one was looking

While we were snapping away this little sneakster found her way to the car and her mother's mascara.

And then she immediately checked out of the moment. Done, done, done. No more pictures.

I looooove this one though. Is it the portrait of motherhood or what? My sister looks so loving.

Newly Added

Remember these? They are still my favorite photos of the hundreds taken this year. I blew this one up and it's now hanging in her room. I just love it. For a long time I was really in to small matted photos, but these days I'm into large (16x20 or larger). It's so much impact.

A Saturday Afternoon

This is usually what happens.

Get inspired

Remember my friend, Angie, who said she likes to stack things? Well, I have looked around my house and realized I like to group multiples (plate wall, photographs, paper butterflies, chinese lanterns). I should post some pics of the rest of the house. But anyway, take a lookie at this flickr group called the art of display and see what others have grouped together. There are pages and pages of cool stuff.

it's so big her eyes and nose scrunch up.

5. Good News
Found out my nieces actually sleep with the dolls I made them. So precious.

6. Curls
at the base of L's neck.

7. Lazy days.
Not leaving the house....just a bit of sewing, snuggling & playing with L, and some food in between.

8. Beautifying the home

A large & healthy fern for here
Much reduced chair in the "as-is" dept

Artists and their inspiration

I just purchased this calendar. Besides being the perfect shape for a skinny bit of wall in my kitchen it's just plain awesome. Modern and fave! And all that color....MmmHmm.

I took a peek at her blog and ran across some posts as the calander was in progress. See what items inspired the calendar here. or see it in sketch phase. I love seeing all the variations that got her to the final product. So cool.

I think when 2009 ends I'll frame up certain months. Add to my nic-nac shelves or gallery wall in the living room. It's too pretty to discard after a year.

***side note: {I'm feeling very excited about discovering her blog. Lately, it seems as though all my daily faves are friends with each other and they end up posting the same things. If one of them throws a will see how fabulous it was on ALL of their blogs. Sure, it's cool, but having to view it fifty times makes me want to scream, "Enough Already!" This blog is the cure for my burn out}

The Grateful List

1. Having that warm holiday feeling in our home for a while now. It's awesome.
2. Feeling grateful for my mom. Over and over again. For teaching me to sew, and all things homemaking. Her devotion to religion. For always being available for that recipe or chat.
3. A husband who is excited to come home and be with us.
4. Husband who keeps his cool during irrational customer meltdowns. So totally priceless.
5. Baby starting to fall asleep without pacifier.
6. New ideas to embellish little girl dresses.
7. Snatching disgusting centipede type creature from L before it went into her mouth.
8. Not having to use heat or A/C for several days.
9. Pumpkin cupcakes. For breakfast.
10. The first snow.
11. Free pattern!
12. Husband asked for a Christmas list. Already? This may mean he will shop before Christmas Eve.
13. Popped into a local fave. It's always lovely.
14. Husband cleaned garage which means I now have a clear path to carry groceries and baby.

An observation

Considering my favorite color is red...there is a lot of blue on my blog. Time to move on. I'm bored with my own photos. But where to move???

Ursula layed an egg

Ursula is just one of many of my sister's chickens. It is seriously one of the ugliest animals I've seen. Next time I'll photograph her too just to prove how not lovely she is to look at. But her eggs.....they are quite nice.

The real world

Lest you think it's ALL loveliness around get to check out my crap list:

1. Had a few too many awkward and/or irritating conversations with ward members last week. Actually, since moving here. Not impressed. Not connecting.
2. I want to return to the midwest (refer to #1)
3. My former fat pants are busting at the seams.
4. My shop has come to a screeching halt. Total bummer.
5. I'm wondering if I'm the crazy one (refer to #1)
6. I'm developing a complex (refer to #1)
7. uh....

Funny, I'm having a hard time remembering what else is on my crap list. Maybe the good report is paying off.
Now.....must. read. good. list.

Bring It!

Oh yeah, It's snowing right now.

Tenth time is a charm

A successful photo shoot with my dearest sister and her rascally crew.
Ahhh.....So refreshing.

Just in case you were wondering..... they're still rascals. For example, this is what happens when you suggest the four year old hug his brother.

And this little charmer entertained Baby L with armpit toots. (That's right. I said toots). It worked cuz L was cracking up.

{more roll wasn't ready at pick-up}

What's Hangin'

My pal, Angie, said:

"ug. I am SO not a interiors shooter. But here are a couple frames of how I decorated. Really I just pile things. Its true."

Check out her fashion work here. It just might blow your mind.

First thing in the morning

(not sure how I feel about this lighting). I never shoot like this, it was a very spontaneous grab of the camera. Anyhoo...not amazing, but something different for me. Plus, she's cute.
