Give Me Spring

Bedroom Light

Mom...a vision in stripes!

I have always loved this photo of my mom. On her last visit I had her bring old photos of her and my dad. I finally got around to having this one scanned. It will hang on our wall of photos in our bedroom as an 8x10. Isn't she cute? And that dress!

This would be our new pal, Flat Stanley. (Some of you may already know about Flat Stanley). Apparantley he/she likes to go on adventures. This one was done by my niece. She requested that Flat Stanley's "adventure" would be taking a nap with Lauren.

The Results: 31 Days

As we wrap up the last days of the photography challenge I can't help but wonder, "What was I thinking?" Actually, I know what I was thinking (a way to relieve the boredom), but it proved to be much harder than I anticipated. I'm a photographer, right? I can do this. Or so I thought. I felt utterly uninspired on way too many occasions. Unfortunately that meant there were days I did not take a single picture. Even though I technically did not take a picture every single day I don't feel like I have failed. The bigger goal was to simply take more photos and I certainly did that. And amidst the duds that I only took to fulfill the "assignment" are some beauties of our everyday life. Tomorrow I will be picking up a few rolls and dropping off several more. Check back in this week for all the images. Hope you enjoy my 31 Days.

P.S. Thanks to all who participated. I have loved looking at your photos and seeing glimpses into your lives. Let's do it again.....later......much later.

Lauren on her blessing day. I like this one...seeing all her baby "gear" in the frame. I was just hoping she wouldn't spit up on the dress before we could get a shot.

Tagged Again...

Ten years ago....

attending Ricks College

TO DO list today
1. Make appointment for oil change
2. Spend more time with Lauren
3. Clean off kitchen table because projects are taking over the space.
4. continue laundry
5. Shower

Things I would do if I were a Billionaire
1. Pay off all siblings homes
2. Purchase and furnish dream house
3. take trips
4. Get Teeth done....veneers!
5. Buy good quality shoes/bags. You know the kind of stilettos that are so well made they feel like slippers.

5 things people don't know about me.
1. I sometimes wonder if a homeless man is living in our basement since we hardly use that space and we have left the garage door open and unlocked for an entire day while we were gone. Seriously, all he has to do is hide in the closet while I start the laundry
2. I prefer snakes over spiders. If I had to choose.
3. I consider anything other than chocolate based desserts a complete waste of time.
4. I like my baby more and more every day.
5. I'm afraid of heights and drowning, but I make myself swim and do "tall" things so it does not control me.

A Few Changes Around Here

I've realized my photo diary blog has become lots more than a photo diary. I really want to keep it strictly a blog for and about photography. So I now have a couple new blogs (a bit obnoxious, I know) for the things I have been interested in lately. You know, things like my love of coats or my quest for decorative plates. Check out Imaginary Shopping Spree. A place for all the beauties I wish I could own. There you can join me in my fantasy world of beautiful trinkets, magnificent ensembles, and perfect homes.

And then there's Creative Chicks at Play a place for me and my sisters to post and chat about our current projects. (The look of this one may change over the next few days as we try to decide on layout.)

I've always had a thing for coats....

This orange coat is my next copycat project. Stunning!
Love the orange, love the yellow.

Wish I could go

Check out the latest exhibit at the MOMA in NYC. I'm speechless.

Color Chart: Reinventing Color from 1950 to Today

The good thing is that the site is so thorough (including audio of the artists talking about their work. video of how some of the pieces were created. and you can zoom to see artworks up close. Yes!!!!) and the photos so great it is almost like you are there. Almost.

Make sure you read the introduction. Very cool.

My favorites: The MOMA floor (see below) by Jim Lambie. But the whole exhibit is fun, fresh, and inspiring. Awesome!
"Stains" from 1969 (listen to the audio. I love crazy ar-teests)
and the one piece for 1960

P.S. This site may take you some time. You'll get sucked in.

My Personal Feelings, Part II

What is it with UT moms dressing like their teenage daughters? I'm begging you to please stop. You're killin' me! We all know you are over 40 and you just look silly. I don't care if you are the same size. You should not be sharing clothes. So give little Shaylee her Abercrombie sweatshirt back and revisit some grown-up stores because I can't take it anymore.

Why I love Lauren

Three reasons.....
1. she sleeps through the night
2. she sleeps through the night
3. she sleeps through the night

Okay, maybe there are four reasons. The fourth is that adorable smile of hers.

Copycat

Remember that gorgeous JCrew coat? I can't bring myself to justify the cost. No way. So I did a little hunting at the fabric store today. Found a couple patterns that come real close. This one below is the best. Check it out...it is the same shape. I'll be adding the ruffle and pockets (which I don't think will be that hard) and shortening the sleeve a bit so it hits at the elbow instead of the forearm.

***And thank you, Renae, for reminding me that I can sew. You just saved me $168.

SWAP Details

Ok. Everyone has been asking me questions about this swap. I'm a first timer so I'm figuring this out myself. Sorry for the confusion, but hopefully this helps. I did a little more research on how it's done. Most people pick a theme. How's this sound for ours?

THEME: "Spring Pick-Me-up"

HOW TO: It's simple. Send a surprise box, get a surprise box. Fill it with anything you want. Home made. Store bought. Pretty things. Sweets. Non-sweets. Anything goes. Include recipes for your favorite Spring meal and maybe a few of the ingredients, pretty papers, etc. These are just ideas to get your imagination and creativity going.

Let me know by March 15th. Packages should be en route by April 1st.

Send me an email with your name, address, email, favorite things, favorite colors, interesting things about you (hobbies, etc). This may help your swap buddy.

Let's Swap

I've been seeing all these great blogs. Creative people making things, sewing, crafting, etc. Some of them have swaps. Although I don't totally know what their conditions are for a swap, I think its a GREAT IDEA! I want to swap too. So I'm going to throw this one out there. Anyone who wants to swap talents let me know by the end of the month and we'll draw names who swaps with who. You can sew, bake, scrapbook, paint, photograph, whatever you want to do. Let's say you have until the end of April to get your swap out the door. If you don't want to make anything you could just send some sort of a pick-me-up surprise to your swap buddy. I think it would be cool to swap with people out of state...that way you get a package in the mail (always a treat). I've already got my contribution in mind. Let me know if you are interested.

The Sartorialist

You've got to look at this blog. I ran across it several weeks ago while browsing someone else's blog. It is way cool. I've always wanted to do this (photograph stylish people found on the streets), but never had the guts. I notice people all the time when I'm running around who I think look great or just plain unique. (Hmmm....maybe my next personal challenge). Anyway, this guy has obviously got photo skills because his images are gorgeous. I included one of my favorites, but they are all good.

P.S. I'm not ashamed. Had to look it up. sartorial means "of or pertaining to tailers or their trade. of or pertaining to clothing or style or manner of dress". Ah-ha!

My Motherhood Motto

In the first few days I was home with Lauren I received a letter from my mom (not anything new...she writes about once a week). The letter contained a few words of wisdom and advice about being a mother. It was good advice and I loved it so much that I put it in Lauren's baby book. Among other things, she encouraged me to just go about my life as usual. Keep doing what I do...go where I need to go, vacuum when I need to vacuum, etc. It was very helpful because those first few days were filled with so much anxiety. My whole day was a series of three hour intervals. Feed. Wait three hours. Feed. Wait three hours. Feed. It was making me insane. I would think to myself, "I can't go anywhere because Lauren has to eat in three hours". I felt stuck. Luckily I got past that mindset, got myself out of the house, and found some balance. Priceless. So when I saw this on this girl's blog I really connected with the message. (Apparently it is a reproduction of a WWII poster). I love it. I want one. So I'm sharing my motherhood motto. Long live mothers!!

Check out all the happy colors it comes in.
