Get excited

because I just dropped off some film and I was feeling very Spring-like.
It's nasty outside, but lovely inside.

Ok, so maybe I'm the only one that is excited. But I've also been gathering items to spruce up our bedroom. Can't wait. I'll be throwing that together all next week.

(p.s. I love after Christmas insane bargains)

You want to know what's lovely....

....Oliver and S patterns.

#1 Reason:
If you make a 12-18 month item...it actually fits your 12-18 month child. Oh Happy Day! I cannot emphasize enough what a miracle this is in the sewing world. (see this post if you do not believe me)

#2 Reason
Their styles are supremely cuter than the rest (McCalls, Butterick, Simplicity).

#3 Reason:
They are the only pattern company kind enough to include infant sizes. Hallelujah!

I'm such a fan that I actually emailed the creator this week to tell her how grateful and impressed I am. Their patterns are worth every...... single....... penny.

p.s. I have been making this shirt pattern all week in several sizes and can't wait to share these little cuties.

The Good Report

1. Bye, Bye inversion. You're so gross anyway.
2. L survived her plummet down our entire flight of stairs.
3. Hanging with Courtney.
4. Finishing several sewing projects.
5. We like to try new recipes. This was a huge hit. Even L dug her hands into the soup and ate fists full of onions. Can you believe it?
6. I welcome a new church responsibility.

She'll hate me when she's older

Woman cave

Personally, I like to read blogs that post daily. I'm a huge fan of those. I wish I could be that kind of blog right now. But instead I have been living in my woman cave (sewing room) and producing lovely things for L. I'm so totally enjoying finishing that pile of projects. I think it was a good move to restrict myself from buying any new fabric until I used what I had because I'm really accomplishing a lot. And I'm also trying to be more social....make new friends and reconnect with the old. I'm feeling much happier about life and working on creating a different kind of year for us. So this little bloggy of mine is quite boring and gets neglected. And although I have no photos to share....our life is still lovely.

Teaser: I have been taking photos....just takes a while to finish rolls of 36 when you only shoot a couple of frames a day. Maybe I'll venture to the lab next week.

Before......

......and working hard on the after. Which will be revealed when I actually have an "after". This is going to take a while. I started to wallpaper with dictionary pages (upper left corner). I hate it. Only because I can't figure out how to attach it so it lays more flat. Thumbtacks aren't working. So anyway, who knows how our room will end up. The lamp stays. The bedding goes.

The Good Report

1. Had some new friends for dinner.
2. Husband is working normal hours again.
3. A quiet week at home.
4. Lots of sewing.
5. Surprise discovery! Local grocery store sells Sweet's candy. My pal, Holly, and used to stop by the factory near work during our lunch break. We got seriously addicted to the chocolate covered marshmallows. But I'm currenlty enjoying these gems we picked up yesterday. Mmmm....

It was all a dream

Last night I dreamt that Jeff and I were vacationing in Venice. We ate amazing food (we like to eat) and I took the most glorious photos. I mean seriously great photos. Even the locals we encountered were willing to sit for a portrait without complaint. Then I woke up. But I'll take it....usually my dreams are very bizarre.

The Good Report

1. Husband fixed our washing machine. Oh how I love his handy skills.
2. L has learned to climb our entire flight of stars....overnight.
3. Spring previews everywhere.
4. Husband's brilliant idea (see #5)
5. Sold a bunch of pre-baby clothes at local store. After a thirty minute sort I walked out with $150.
6. L ate grapefruit for the first time and loved it.
7. Seeing our dream home. Small, but modern.
8. Just for fun
9. Admitting your true feelings.
10. Being relieved of a tedious obligation.
11. Hope for a different kind of year (no, not talking about Obama)
12. Watching L snuggle her dolls and carry around a blankie. A recent habit.
13. A trip to the fabric store.....ALONE!

A new year, a new room

L's little room continues to evolve. After taking down the Christmas tree I got into a major house kick (working on our very boring bedroom). I'm loving these current changes to her bedroom.

And that chair....I can't even speak.

A collection of L's red dresses. left (from Aunt Melissa), middle (mine as a baby), right (this year's Christmas dress). More to be added as the collection grows. They need some decorative hooks or something and non plastic hangers. I'll be searching for that in the next few weeks.

I think the silver frames are much better. Makes the room feel lighter than the black.
The watercolor (left) was done by my friend, Angie, when L was born. I've been wanting to hang it up for a while now. And the art on the right is a card purchased from a favorite etsy shop

I still want to add more butterflies. And I think she needs a rug of some sort too. maybe black and white.

I also rearranged my nic-nac shelves. I love these colors together.

{P.S. Maybe I'll start taking some lovely photos again in the spring. Until then, it's a rampage on making the home lovely}

The Good Report

This week I heart the following lovely things:

1. A clean and organized house.
2. Fresh changes around the house...a new photo here, another arrangement there.
3. Lots of sewing.
4. Visit with an old friend.
5. $1.75 box of Christmas cards (for next year).
6. No more single parenting (Jeff is on his way home).
7. Several nights in a row watching chick flicks.
8. My mom's perfect timing phone call.
9. Dinner with just my sister and discussing her current projects.
10. Finally had local copy center minimize a pattern so L can wear it now.

My hope for the new year

I'm not a big resolution person. Too much hype. And I tend to want to get inspired and set goals around the Fall. But I have some dreams for this year.
Like try not to let this happen:

“The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. … I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night.
I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed.
I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less.”

Not so lovely

The bathroom mat disintegrated in the washer today and now the water isn't draining. The entire back of the mat disappeared into tiny little pieces of rubber....And they are clogged somewhere inside. I'm not sure what happened because I have washed it before. S-O-S! Hubby is out of town and I don't do maintenance.

Mormon "stuff" finally gets cool

I came across this while blog hopping last week. Exactly what I have been looking for. Maybe other people have known about it, but I just about fell off my chair. Beautiful!
