A good day

Yesterday L and I hung out in the park. It was so good for us. She was in heaven exploring a new place and I was feeling hope that spring might come. Can't wait until May rolls around because this year we are doing our family pics in front of some very similar blooms. Mmmmm...it's going to be so lovely. I just need a perfect dress.

more here from last Spring.

The Good Report

1. The hubs got up with L who rose unusually early on Sat. I slept in until 9.
2. The hubs survived late night run in with highway debris (injury free). His motorcycle did not.

Happy Valentine's Day

No big plans for us. We both hate fighting the weekend dinner crowds. But I'm going to try some cute Martha ideas for breakfast in the morning and make hubbies favorite for dinner. I had high hopes of finishing some heart pj's for L. But.......it didn't happen. Maybe this afternoon if I get a sudden burst of motivation.

In progress

Browsing a blog today (can't remember which) I read the following:

"A home is not born, but made".

Mmmm Hmmm. So true! And it takes a lot of time.

Bedroom makeover is in progress......

this is the wall opposite our bed. and I've been filling the frames for months. only three empty ones left. I haven't shot BW film forever so my goal is to take some in the next few weeks. The wall used to be filled with frames all the way to the floor, but our little rascal wouldn't leave them alone.

here are some details of what's hanging.....

polaroids of L

motorcyle sketch done by husband. photo booth pics of husband and sisters back in the day

pic of husband's feet I took back in the day

my mom as a little girl

orange chair from west elm. (an after Christmas clearance score! paid A LOT less than what they are selling for right now. probably because it is not a color in demand).

cream crocheted pillow done by my mom

I moved our family picture from the hallway to this corner and I like it here so much better.

The area that I'm now focusing on.....the headboard. I have these sheets of wrapping paper (been in my stash for a while) that I want to frame up to create a faux headboard. Each sheet is 24x36" so three should do it. But I'm looking for reasonably priced frames. Not an easy task at that size. I may have to settle for $10 poster frames. Cuz I'm cheap.

fur pillows: one is from potterybarn and the other from target.

Duvet cover: another after Christmas clearance score.....from CB2

detail view of duvet cover. I looooove that is is embroidered.

as you can see it still needs a lot of work....texture, depth, detail. But we are on our way. And I was giving colored sheets a try, but I hate them (so does hubby). So it will be back to white. Please someone out there reveal their secret to keeping whites white. Because I stink at it.

P.S. I purposely did not show husband's side of the bed.....the curse of my existence. Have I also mentioned his only request for what I do to the house was an all-white bedroom. I think I'm doing a good job. It's only a tiny, tiny bit of orange. right?

Feeling the love

This weekend was pretty great. No giant extravaganzas or anything like that. Just lots of birthday phone calls and cards. The biggest shocker would be my dad singing happy birthday to me in a voice mail. Uh, that's never happened. Very cool. And our little fam went out to dinner and L screamed the entire time. Not so cool. (Note to self: say yes when sister offers to babysit.)

On Sunday the celebration continued with my brother-in-law cooking my personal request: greasy, homemade, cheesy, tacos with rice and beans. Yum! My sister surprised me with some pretty new fabrics and made the quilt I lost interest in shortly after cutting. That was a total shocker. She's so sneaky. (see finished quilt here)

I've mentioned before how I have become totally sentimental so imagine how I felt about a homemade quilt from my sister. Yeah, I love it. L is wrapped up and snoozing with it as I'm writing. Awww..... So cute.

And perhaps the sweetest thing about my birthday....my nephew handed me $1.

My mind is on Valentine's day and we've got all kinds of goodness floating around our house. Like the good chocolate from Canadian pals.

The Good Report

1. My sister shared her giant vine ripe tomatoes. You know the kind that are a deep deep red and actually taste good. I'm so lucky.
2. L figured out how to drink from a straw.
3. My birthday is a week away!
4. I'm getting really good at buttonholes. And finishing projects. Woohoo!
5. My favorite visual loveliness this week. I need to find similar fabric. And those red boots....oh my!
6. We did so great at not eating out.
7. A talent scout stopped me at Target and asked if I would consider getting L into modeling. Although extremely flattering to the parent ego I feel very strongly about not pimping out my baby.
8. A surprise arrived in the mail from a favorite blog. Cool.
9. Superbowl food. (Because I don't give a crap about the game).
