Men being manly {Part One}

My younger brother (see pic below) came to visit the week before Christmas. Seems whenever we all get together the men like to run off and shoot things. I decided to tag-a-long. My brother-in-law made me shoot one of the guns (which I hated) in exchange for being able to photograph their male bonding. He's so obnoxious.

See.
Aren't they manly?

All to myself

This one...she is tricky. Nothing at all like the first. And most days I feel like I'm done. I'm so done! Last night I declared, "I'm not having another". She is unpredictable and after three months I still haven't figured out any surefire ways to comfort her. Which makes me feel like total crap as a mom and that I'm not meeting her needs.

L is napping right now. Which is good. M and I have been playing. We needed a little time together. Peaceful time together. Because yesterday was ugly. I was not a good mom. Today I am giving it my all and trying to forgive myself for yesterday. The day I tried to pretend I wasn't a mom. Which did not go well.

So to my little M, let's be friends. And have more happy times.

Cousins

I love these photos. They crack me up. Because they represent the total chaos and good times they have together.

L's 2yr old Portraits

These are not even close to the images I had in my head. Not. Even. Close.
(Although I am deeply smitten with the first image).

Two year olds are tricky. And constantly moving. And don't give a crap that you have an amazing idea. Or that the low light in their room is metering at 1/15 of a second and that means you should sit very, very still. Oh how she taunts me! But I will not be defeated. One of these days I'm going to pin her down. tie her arms. and take the portraits I envisioned. (Kidding about that arm part).

P.S. I think I've rekindled my love for BW film. We've had a long separation. Also, I bought the girls the cutest chairs for Christmas. Sure to show up in some photos.

Until next week

Merry Christmas Everyone! Today is super lazy. And super quiet. Jeff is working and I'm cleaning up the house preparing for tonight. I'll be making the hubs favorite lasagna (his request). In the morning we'll head out to my sister's to open presents. L is coughing and hacking and I'm hoping she feels better soon. And I hope no one else gets it.

Back next week with some super sweet pics of L.
And then a glimpse into the world of men.

Have a great weekend!

For Abby

I felt so grateful that my sisters-in-law flew all the way out here for the baby blessing. So I decided to send them a a little something. (I wish I would have photographed the other pillows I made). This one was inspired by this. I like it so much I think I'll be making one for our couch too. I've been wanting to do a Spring makeover anyway by switching out the pillows we have.

I was trying to make an envelope style cover, but after a major miscalculation of fabric the hubs saved the day with this suggestion. I ended up liking it a lot more.

The Good Report

1. Kind woman at the post office helped me carry all my packages to mail. A huge help!
2. My aunt saved the day when we stopped by her house. I was able to feed M and let L play in the most awesome toy room. They needed a break from running errands.
3. Packages arriving in the mail. woot, woot!
4. Someone on the hub's route gave him the pricey wall mount for our TV.
5. Someone also gave him a box of See's Candies. My fave.
6. The hubs and my bro mounted our TV to the wall. Freeing up another 3 feet of space. Yes!

check out one of the coolest Christmas "trees" I've ever seen. All my favorite colors. So much detail and texture. Cool.

Deck The Halls {our Christmas}

Nothing like photographing your house to reveal every single flaw. But we're focusing on the lovely, right? I've always got plans and our place is a work in progress.

Ok. Let's Be Merry!

I love my sequined stocking.

glitter snowflake garland from Joann's

This is my favorite addition to the decor. I've wanted one of these silver trees forever. It wasn't a good deal (I like a bargain), but since I've wanted one for years I took the plunge. No regrets. I love how it looks in this room.

I like the "before" much better of L's tinsel tree. But I thought I needed to see it decorated to be sure. Yep, I'm definitely a minimalist. I don't think it needs anything.

I also love my new toy bin from Joann's (black and white floral bin).

Unfortunately, you can't really see my sweet paper stars hanging in the window because of the exposure. But they're sweet. :)

Also notice I rearranged the kitchen table. It used to be parallel to the window, but now it's perpendicular. Not really drastic in photos, but drastic in day to day living. I feel like it opens up the space so much more. It was the best idea. And bringing up the bench too. L doesn't really use her high chair that much anymore. It's all about the bench. Because she thinks she's super adult now.

This white tree was a bargain. I got it for $15 two years ago. This is the first year I've put it up though. And I'm glad I did because I was going to get rid of it. It's so perfect for our room. I'll probably decorate this one next year, but for now I'm just loving it with plain white lights. It looks completely awesome at night. (Yes, I know I need a tree skirt)
