Cardy craze

Getting lovely is coming along. I'm digging my scarf collection....even still wearing some here and there since it really hasn't been that hot of a summer. But lately, I've been obsessed with cardigans. I spied these this week and added them to my wish list.

Old Navy Hello color!!! I love you.
Old Navy
Old Navy

Next in the coming months.... acquiring some shoes. I'm deficient.

P.S. I just bought this in red. I'm already imagining Christmas card pics. (Khaki, red, white, & grey would look real nice with the photo cards I bought last year).

Live in the moment

I feel like I might have posted this before, but I can't remember. It's on my mind again.

“The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. … I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less”
--Author Anna Quindlen

Although it annoys me how obnoxiously poetic mothers get AFTER they've raised their babies, I also get what she is saying.

The hubs is so good at living in the moment. Great at it. Which is why I need him.

P.S. 3/4 of us our having a very poetic episode of the stomach flu at our house. It's awesome. Not sure when I will get to picking up those wedding photos. I get exhausted just from changing a diaper.

Go girl

A modern woman to me is one that is happy with her
life choices and doesn’t wait for others to tell her
how she should feel about herself.

I totally loved this when I read it. Like really loved it.

I need therapy

But I'll settle for some emotional eating.

My little jaunt as photographer over the weekend reminded of my weaknesses and why I don't do weddings. The weakness: Family groupings. Oh, the horror! The ugly, ugly horror. I really stink at them. Not posting ANY of those. Wedding pros, I bow to you. It's not easy or fun. You are part psychologist, best friend, boss, peacemaker, artist, speed racer. And more.
Can. not. handle it.
Can't get into it. Do not care.
The bride: Love it. The details: Love the most!
Which you will see is all very clear from the photos I post over the next few days.

Oh man, this photography degree of mine causes me equal amounts of anxiety, relief, pain, excitement. Maybe a smidge of joy here and there. I guess I am a tortured artist after all (hahahaha).

New dream, where are you?
Actually, WHAT are you?

P.S. (My sister would have loved this house. There were quilts everywhere. Beautiful, beautiful quilts around every corner).

The Good Report

1. Jeff kept his cool. As usual. (No need to explain the deets. But it was a big one).
2. I'm trying to be like Jeff. Cool in hot situations.
3. He may have found an additional hobby. Which I have been encouraging him to do since he can't always leave for days on the motorcycle.
4. Got the above fixed for free after damaging it on first voyages.
5. His work connections are the best.
6. Jeff doing more dirty work so I don't have to. This time cleaning a car seat poop explosion.
7. Utah mornings are so beautiful. I open up the windows and let it all in. And it makes me feel really happy.
8. The Blueprint Quilt (#3) is ready to be quilted. It was a quick one. Much easier to piece. And it rocks.
9. The hubs has really been surprising me lately. Unloading the dishwasher a couple of times. Letting me cry on his shoulder (well, that one is normal).
10. More free baby food from a neighbor.
11. Spending waaaaaaaay less time cruising blogs has made me much more balanced. And happy.
12. The wedding was lovely.
13. So was the mountain air (much kinder on my recent allergy attacks).
14. Spending some time with Holly was even better.
15. I'll be giving her some very lovely photos. (And pretending the rest never happened.)
16. Catching up with some former co-workers was great.
17. Getting my sister's awesome babysitter to watch the girls was the only way to go.
18. A bunch of new choices for $5 flowers. Including callas lilies! But I had to pass on them since I just got some freebies from the brother in law. (anyone else doing $5 flowers? what are you finding?)
19. Learned you are supposed to change your air conditioning filter every month after our unit froze and we came home from the wedding to an 80 degree house. What????? We've never changed the filter. We've lived here four years.
20. I love the internet. And google. (see #19)
21. L almost drowned this week. The "almost" is the lovely part.

Loved this. Great flavors. And I'm on a salad kick. I didn't use a trifle dish. I just layered the ingredients on my plate. Also, I had to make my own Sazon seasoning because I couldn't find it in the store. It was really salty. Like really, really salty, but I could tell it had massive potential. So next time I would choose either the garlic salt or the kosher salt. Not both. (or just try this other version HERE)

Leaving you with more words...

...But next week I'll be sharing lovely photos. THE wedding is tomorrow! And, strangely, this wedding hater feels excited yet calm about photographing the event. Anyhoo....

I quite like this:

"Daily chaos will never cease.
Rather than struggling against it,
find your own rhythm."

I will try, wise person, to find my own mothering rhythm.

Sunflower (on it's way out)

Hated this the when I got the original film back, but like it today.

Seeking my own balance these days. Which means less blogging.

The Good Report

1. Finished the confetti quilt
2. Photographed the confetti quilt
3. Unknowingly washed confetti quilt with a lone black sock. But NO damage!
4. Pep talk from my mom. (about mothering. I know. Not surprising.)
5. Child door locks preventing L from waking M during nap.
6. Unseasonably cool weather. (I'm sooooo not a heat person).
7. Confetti quilt looks awesome in the basement. Can't wait to share photos. Then I'll stop talking about the confetti quilt. :)
8. Those IKEA plants seem to be living.
9. I'm so trying this steak preparation. Sounds too good to be true. I'll let you know.
10. Watched a bunch of chick flicks
When in Rome (kind of cute)
Leap Year (really, really cute)
11. Saturday night at the pool. Awesome.

West Elm Fall Preview

Did you see?
I'm digging this pillow for the basement

And these chairs. Yes, please!

P.S. Family pics were rained out over the weekend. The yellow flowers died already. Now I'm thinking I'll just wait until Fall. And mothering a two year old is kicking my butt. Big time. I feel like I'm on the verge all the time.

The Good Report

1. Small church class last week = heaven.
2. Starting to see a slight glimmer of a social life.
3. Stranger at gas station told me I had beautiful skin.
4. The hubs lost his (expensive! and brand new) sunglasses at work. But some honest person turned them in.
5. No one gave me the finger when I was driving well under the speed limit on the freeway. (spare tire is still on). I was pleasantly surprised.
6. Finished the quilting on confetti quilt after a marathon day at sister's house. Yeah, baby.
7. And I found the most perfect fabric for binding. For $3.
8. The hubs is a hero again. Doing the hard stuff so I don't have to.

I've got to make this summer scarf. Adorable!

Random.org selected Renae as the giveaway winner. Congrats!

Location Scouting

Sounds very official, but it's really just a short way I've saying after months of keeping on eye out as I run errands, etc....I found a spot I love for our family pictures. There are actually two. Both with these yellow flowers. I drove past this one today. It's even bigger than the original. Bad news is the sun will be facing the wrong direction (glaring and ugly) during the time we are going to shoot. The other location.....perfect open shade, but not as private as this one. It's on a very main road. (the hubs hates to make a scene. So do I).

So if all goes well, we'll have an updated family pic (one that includes M) next week. You never know with kids. It's actually supposed to be rainy so we could have great light all day here. Wish us luck......

The Farm

This place was totally worth $3.50. Which included the wagon ride.

Did you know pigs don't sweat? That's why they roll around in the mud.
For real.

Nate & Ash {and family}

I'm seriously rusty with the RZ. Yikes. (can't believe you can still buy them new). It's been a while (feels like longer) and it felt awkward. I even opened the film back and exposed half a roll. Pleeze! and I know my exposures were all over the place though you would never know it. (Ok, the pros might see it). These are unedited like always. But wow. Rusty, rusty, rusty.

I can't really decide if I like bw or color better so I'm posting both.

These were shot with Fuji 800Z (available again. is it really discontinued?)

P.S. I'm thinking about a little blogging/photography break. I've done it before (the photography part at least. Like for the first five+ years of our marriage). But I don't need a five year break this time. I pretty much feel like focusing on making my actual life lovely. Not my blog/photos.

....But not until after the end of the month. A favorite friend of mine is getting married on the 26th. Lots of photos to be taken. And our family pics this weekend. Wooo! I happened upon a very large rose bush and it's yellow.

Basement update

Took a little trip to IKEA over the weekend. This rug was sold out (which is totally killing me because I think it is the one for the basement). Last week I picked up this one at Target in case I didn't like IKEA's (or if it was sold out). I like it. But it seems way too small so I doubt it will be staying. Maybe the girls' room?????? or returned to the store??? And I didn't like these pillows as much in person. The only thing I ended up getting for the basement was toy storage bins. LOVE them! I wish I could find them online to share the link because I like them so much. So even though my most sought after items were unavailable our bill was gigantic after picking up this, three of these, those storage bins, things I can't even remember, and several plants/pots which are already dying due to the lack of "bright, but not direct sun" in our house. Nice. I am cringing at the money wasted. And that I did not read the care instruction BEFORE buying. That's how plant saavy I am. I purchased based on shape. They were all modern looking to me. Any locals have bright sun in their house and want some plants? I'm serious. I can return the pots.

But what I'm most excited about is that I finished the quilting on quilt #2 yesterday after a marathon day at my sister's. And it's for the basement! Now that I am finishing it up (and after seeing these in real life) I think I need yellow pillows because everything else in the basement is neutral. How about yellow stripe? Yes! Definitely. It will tie in the yellow from the quilt.

P.S. I have photos (brother's family portraits) to pick up from the lab, but just too lazy. And slightly concerned about running around too much on the spare tire.

Make an Entrance

This is mine.
No Likey.
Need help.

I feel like our house is pretty cheerful and welcoming. Except for the entrance. Which is not an entrance. And I'm not sure how to make our "not an entrance" inviting and entrance-y. (Besides the obvious.....moving all the baby gear).

I already cleared the countertop. Bill box, junk, misc. items are neatly stored in those cupboards directly above. Now what? Maybe a potted plant or some decorative accents on the counter. Or a beautiful rug greeting you as you step in? I'm completely stumped. This seriously awkward space is killing me.

I'd also really like to paint our front door yellow but fear the HOA nazis will hunt me down.

Oh, townhouse how you taunt me so.

The Good Report

1. Kiddie pool is a great way to entertain the two year old.
2. I can't remember if I mentioned quilt #2 is ready to be quilted. It's awesome. (can't wait to share the inspiration for #3. might be the coolest one yet.)
3. I washed the zig zag for the first time (after it was slimed by L) and loved it even more all crinkly.
4. Free calla lilies from my brother in law's work.
5. I purchased some rubber bands for L's hair. Which seemed to do the trick. She doesn't mess with it and cute hair accessories are lasting all day. Yes!
6. BBQ Meatballs
I was starving. Needed to go to the grocery store. Didn't want to go to the grocery store. Had all the ingredients in my pantry for this one. EASY! There isn't anything really special about it, but I ate a ton and then went back for more.
I'll be on a Pioneer Woman kick for weeks now. I've got to try these.

Some visual loveliness this week:

The most beautiful canned goods I've ever seen. I'm getting ready to do some more of my own and this was making me swoon.

The Good Report {flat tire edition}

1. Shot gun blast was actually just a blowout.
2. I didn't swerve.
3. It occurred just before my exit.
4. And there was a gas station right there.
5. And the girls were happy the entire time.
6. And it wasn't that hot. Only 70. Instead of 900 degrees.
7. And it was near Jeff's work.
8. And he came right away.
9. And he wasn't mad. (he's never mad. I would have been.)
10. And he's my hero.

on my mind

from the zoo

I don't even remember taking these. M looks so cute I couldn't resist posting.
Not bad results from our crappy digital.

Garland pics

I can't decide if I like it better in color or bw

Baby M, 7 Months

I'm thinking about printing one of these for the gallery wall in our bedroom. I took some of L too, and some of them together, but didn't like them as much.

And totally unrelated.... I love Glee. I loved last night's Glee. And the week before and the week before that. And the week before that.....

Home Sweet Home {Make it your own}

This is my sister's mantle (in progress).
I've mentioned she has chickens.
See HERE, and HERE
Isn't this the coolest way to make your house your own?
I might like it even more than she does.
