The Good Report

1. L lis the only one I know who still giggles while she's sick. Her laugh is the most glorious sound.
2. This recipe was a hit.
3. Looks like my walls were trendy back in 2008
4. Our wardrobe is coming together quite nicely for family photos. This arrived for L. It's pure cuteness! (so this is out. no longer in the running.)
Can't wait. Anyone want to share a great location? I'm still stumped.
5. L started saying M's name.
6. L surprised me when she devoured the edamame I offered for a snack.
7. The hubs taking care of me while I'm sick. Now I'm taking care of him. Ah, true love.
8. Early birthday celebrating and getting a few items from my wish list.
9. My dishes and dishwasher have finally recovered from the damage caused by generic soap.
10. For some reason L has stopped crying when put to bed at night. It's so nice.

Daily Life: watching a moo-ee

She's pretty much obsessed with Elmo.

She looks so grown up to me in this photo.

I told you so....

Well, HE told you so.

Another great read about shooting FILM.

M @ 16 weeks

I took these specifically to hang with some of L. I was so happy with that set I had to get some of M too.

M is laying on the OFELIA blanket from IKEA. (not sure if people care that I include this info in my posts, but I always like to know where I can find some thing I see that I like). Same one that's on our bed.

Where I blog from

I changed out my shelves. Again. so I thought I'd post a pic. And it will probably change again in a couple months. Been thinking about collecting some "K's".

Where do you blog from?

I'm loving this....

Plate wall (yellow and green version)

one of my updates for Spring. removed the red plates and added some white, yellow, green from my stash.
Next up.....pillows.

I got these curtains for Christmas and hung them up. They only lasted a day. Couldn't stand them. Jeff said, "too feminine". He was right. They were bad. And too gauzy.

Any curtain suggestions? I still think this room needs more.

It's quite possible that everyone is real sick of seeing photos of my bed. So sorry. It just takes forever to create a home. (Don't you think?) We've lived here three years and I'm just starting to like what's going on.

The Good Report

1. Taught my first class. Went better than expected. With the class and my baby.
2. Did not act like a fool when engaged in a conversation/subject matter that usually makes me squirm.
3. L is so sweet and entertaining these days. And more talking, talking, talking. I love it!
4. I left my entire bag of cut fabric for the zig zag quilt in my shopping cart, but someone was kind enough to turn it in instead of keeping it. yeah!
5. Tried a couple new recipes. One was a hit (can't find recipe online otherwise I would link to it)
6. The shirt arrived! It fits.
7. The hubs set up crib #2 before leaving on his trip.
8. Dinner invite from a neighbor.
9. More quilt cutting. Sewing? Soon.
10. a friend loaned me a bumbo.
11. M started rolling over.
12. A few new items for my Spring wardrobe means I will start looking lovely again.
13. Jeff will be home today. I'm so glad. Single parenting sucks.
14. This was my favorite post this week. Wow. Need to work on that one. Really need to work on that.

P.S. that new profile pic of me.....well, it's the best of the worst. ugh! maybe some day I won't look totally weird in photos.

P.P.S. see a few photos from Christmas HERE

P.P.P.S. My 35mm camera is on the fritz. Crap! what to do? what to do? It may be a good thing since I have been seriously annoyed lately with the horrific quality of my lens. Any film shooters out there want to share their fave 35mm? and why?

My Class {Valient 11}

My new church responsibility? Teaching the 11 year olds. Sixth graders. I remember sixth grade very clearly. I thought I was so mature.

____________________________________________

I love these. Maybe because I'm a little tired of photographing my own kids.
(perfect light courtesy of a lovely window in our classroom and a sunny day).

Day 1 teaching...already distinct personalities detected. The quiet one, the know-it-all, the sweet one, class clown, and on and on. So begins a great adventure that I enter into reluctantly (I love Relief Society). I took these photos for prayer reasons. As in.... no one ever wants to say the prayer and so someone will randomly be selected each Sunday by drawing their photo.

Ran across this article today. It's worth a read.

A new look {3 columns}

I've been wanting three columns on my blog forever. And I finally found a tutorial I could understand. Things may change often over the next little while as I add/subtract and generally tweak things.

P.S. just dropped off some film today. Is it too late to post Christmas photos? The feeling is so passed. Ah, well.....

Inspiration hits {The Daily Life Series}

I've been hearing a lot of "enjoy them. they grow up so fast" lately. Which sometimes makes me want to throw things. And just yesterday I overheard grandma-esque woman telling another mother during her child's meltdown to "love every minute" because she "misses it so much". Huh? OK, not going to enjoy those kind of minutes, but it sparked an idea. Inspiration hit. And I decided I need to photograph daily life. Because you know.... "they grow up so fast" and I need to "enjoy it". The things we do. Like color, eat, take naps, play, watch kid movies, clean, run errands, do laundry and whatever else I can't think of right now. Oh, and there's also throw tantrums, laugh, and cry.

We'll see how it goes. Meaning, we'll see if I can create some lovely images from very mundane moments and a life phase that I don't particularly enjoy. But I like the thought of having a record of the every day. Maybe I'll call it "in the trenches" instead (courtesy of my sister). A more appropriate description of raising babies.

So I say to you, Daily Life, bring it on! I'm going to photograph the heck out of you.

{Check out this dad's thoughtful tribute to childhood}.

Planning stages

I'm not sure what I like more.....family photos or planning the family photos. We're going casual and neutral this year. As usual I like to start with MY outfit and work everyone else around it. It's much easier that way. Here's what I've been thinking:

JCrew shirt (now sold out). ***I seriously hope this fits my unpredictable body upon arrival since I bought it on final clearance and it cannot be returned. Please, please, please fit.

GAP scarf

and some sort of skinny jean. But that's iffy since I haven't worn skinny jeans since before L was born. It could be scary. We'll see after trying them on.

check these out for $9.50!

And now I'm on the hunt for the right location. Possibly the wooden palettes (right next to cherry boxes).

And then I'm thinking something like this for L, but not this because it's too much $$$

or this from Old Navy would be cute with some sparkly shoes

And possibly something like this for M

I'm pretty sure I already have a denim jumper from L's younger days.

Hmmm....on second thought maybe we need some pops of yellow.

Secret Garden

Both abundance and lack of abundance exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities. It is always our conscious choice which secret garden we will tend . . . when we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that’s present—love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature, and personal pursuits that bring us happiness—the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience heaven on earth.

Dear 2010,

I only have eyes for....

couch

pintuck duvet

square mirror

{Focus, focus, focus.}

P.S. Haven't been been picking up the camera much these days (ugh January!). Uninspired. Probably will not be posting much because I have no new images. An unintended "break". This blog is starting to have too many words. No likey.

Until inspiration hits again I'll still be dreaming over here where I'm still inspired by all things home.

January 10, 2010

The Good Report

1. New church responsibility.
2. Baby still sleeping through the night even though she wasn't feeling great.
3. Quick phone call to Simply Mac saves the day after L changes our computer to appear as its negative. (just try it, mac owners: control. option. command. 8.)
4. Case lot sale = full pantry
5. An old photo pal contacted me.
6. L is really talking. And I understand most of it. It's great!
7. Somehow my baby is gaining weight despite her very sporadic, short bits of breast feeding. She's a restless one.
8. New tires = super smooth ride

P.S. I'm in a cooking rut.

Change {not always a good thing}

I've been doing some major nesting. And wanting change around the house. Yesterday I switched up the photos above the couch. Not sure I like it. Jeff admitted he misses the Keep Calm poster. I think I just miss all the colors. I'll be switching out some of the images for recent photos, but just wanted to get the arrangement right and see if I liked it. Eh... I don't know...

It just seems real bland. Too symmetrical. Maybe if I hung prints with yellow in them. The one thing I really do like is that more of the light cord is hidden this way. Hmmm...

I'm also waiting for some new pillows to arrive. Switching to yellow and white. I'm having change anxiety today, but I was getting so bored and I like to mix it up. I think I hate it even more looking at it in a photo. What to do?

2010: Be lovely

Lovely
–adjective
1. charmingly or exquisitely beautiful: a lovely flower.
2. having a beauty that appeals to the heart or mind as well as to the eye, as a person or a face.
3. delightful; highly pleasing: to have a lovely time.
4. of a great moral or spiritual beauty: a lovely character.

How will I be lovely?

1. Try new recipes & set pretty tables. Just for us. Just because.
2. Step it up with my physical appearance. Smell nice. Wear make up when leaving the house. Remember how much better I feel about life when I'm dressed and groomed.
3. Be cheerful and kind when it's the hardest for me. (tired, hungry, or both)

January 03, 2010

The Good Report

1. A short work week for the hubs.
2. A great article: Film v. Digital
3. Dreaming of spring-like updates for the house.
4. The hub's cat like reflexes saved him from getting legs crushed by crazy driver (who was backing up without looking).
5. Added this plate to my collection. Thanks, after Christmas sale!
6. L is including please and "welcome" (your welcome) in her conversations.
7. Major improvements in breast feeding. M has learned to focus.
8. Late night chatting with the hubs. He is a GREAT listener.
9. The hubs rigged broken digital camera so we could download pics.
10. Someone told me I smelled nice while out running errands. which made me feel great. (thanks to new perfume from hubby)
11. Alone time browsing lovely home goods at Alice Lane. And a pillow priced at an amusing $715 (not a typo).
12. Jeff picked out a great documentary. It might get loud.
13. Jeff cleaned under our bed.
14. L put a corn flake in M's mouth when I wasn't looking. And she DID NOT choke to death.
15. My sister helped me start cutting for the zig zag quilt. And donated some of her own fabric.
