On my mind for quite a while

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

On the Home Front

I only choose things I absolutely love, if I can't find what I want,
I just live without it until I find exactly what I'm looking for.

The Good Report

Back-from-Boston-now-it's-Thanksgiving-whirlwind-week

1. These boots did not fail me. So comfortable even when walking, walking, walking. I wore them every day.
2. Sitting next to her on the plane made for interesting conversation and a seemingly short flight.
3. And now I'm considering yoga for my "i'm feeling old"/hunchback problem.
4. Temple weddings always make me feel deeply tender towards my own little fam. So does a four day absence.
5. Started The Intentional Family on the plane.
6. Best chips and salsa. Ever.
8. A deelish tower of salad technique I'd like to try at home.
9. My order from JCrew Factory arrived while we were gone. Everything fits and I love it all. (Which is good since it cannot be returned).
10. My sister totally took care of business (as usual). And calmed my aching heart. And listened to my distressed sobs from the airport. M was pretty sick when we left.
11. My pediatrician totally took care of business too. He's the best.
12. Jeffy surprised me with a magazine after a particularly funky day
13. And did the grocery shopping even after his long day at work.
14. Mid week brought a very unexpected piece of mail. Let's just say that I BELIEVE (big time).
15. I started decorating for Christmas.
16. Scored Swanson's chicken broth for 39 cents a can. I use that stuff all the time.

Back in the saddle

I can usually look on the bright side of life. Even in the middle of stress or whatever is going on (see my Good Reports), but I'm feeling deeply disappointed today about some things and can't shake it off.

Time to make my bed, snap a few photos (maybe of the freshly fallen snow), snuggle the girls, cry on Jeff's shoulder, clean the house (oh yeah, I'm so down with cleaning as therapy), listen to very loud, very good music.

What do you do to shake it off?

P.S. The wedding was sweet and loving, full of tender feelings. The bride...beautiful.
P.P.S. I'm hibernating this week. Photos from our trip....uh, I'm not making any promises.

Pajama Party

This doesn't work for everyone. But I knew it would for them when she threw out the idea.

And I knew I would love hanging out on a Saturday afternoon.

I like to think of Whitnee as my cooler, funkier alter ego. You know, the one that dances and chops her hair off into a mohawk. That's why we need to be friends.

The Good Report

1. Sister's birthday present arrived just in time.
2. Even though we are MORE (worse) sick this week, everyone is still sleeping.
3. Pediatrician was able to see all of us at once...including me. Thus, avoiding separate appointments and lots of driving that I had no energy for.
4. Surprise package from a family friend.
5. Thanks to online video narration L stays totally engaged (and still) with nightly scripture reading.
6. 5PM darkness is totally helping with early bedtime.
7. Got our Thanksgiving turkey (11.5 lbs) for $4 thanks to vouchers at local grocery store.
8. Entered M into a cutest baby contest on tinyprints.com. I want that $1000. (But I won't hold my breath).

I've always wanted a modern address label. Finally found some good ones. I'm ordering these.
Still want a teepee in the basement.
cool kid catalog. page 32 is my fave.
I'll visit Utah's nature if I can stay here.
A better look at JCrew Spring

Sometimes (tonight) it actually happens this way.

I've showered earlier in the day and my hair looks awesome making me feel awesome. Ready for whatever gets thrown at me. Yes, good hair can actually do that.
The girls have also been bathed.
Dinner is in the oven making the house smell warm and comforting.
The rest of the house is clean (mostly) or it's not and I don't care at all.
I'm playing on the floor with the girls.
Waiting for Jeff to come home from work.
Favorite tunes playing in the background.

There's no way to photograph this one.

I can relate

Creativity isn't just making something from scratch,
but seeing potential in what already exists.
Whole Living, December 2010, p 89

Man, this rings so true to me with my photographs. The glory days were filled with creating from scratch and I loved it. When I look at those images today all I can think is "forced". Now, I find myself hoping to see potential photographs lurking in our day. Existing beauty has become really exciting.

I've changed a lot. I hope my photographs follow.

If only...

Sometimes I like to pretend I'm going to grow my hair out long. And it will look full and lovely. And then I'm smacked back to reality.

Visions of October

The leaves got real good right after this....bright red and pink.

P.S. I may have forgotten about parallax. Again.

B is for Babysitter

Thanks to my neighbor for the location tip. We shot a bunch at the local fair grounds which ended up being about ten locations in one. I love large, blank, colored, textured walls. Can you believe that BLUE!

The Good Report

1. Canned six pints of salsa (trying a new recipe. They change so much after canning).
2. Ang surprised me with a new notebook for my polaroids.
3. Canned 25 pints of apple sauce. (let it be known that canning applesauce is a nightmare, but at $5 a bushel I couldn't say no)
4. Staying home and doing absolutely nothing after a long day of canning.
5. Rach emailed me a design for our Christmas cards. Awesome!
6. A neighbor invited L to play outside. Meanwhile, I cooked dinner in peace. It was awesome.
7. My sister gave us three more pints of peach syrup. Priceless.
8. Spontaneous lunch with another neighbor.
9. The portrait job of my dreams. Photographing a family in their home. !!!!!!!!!
10. A few successful early bedtimes for L.
11. What not to wear Season 8! Nick is back.
12. One-on-one chat with the Stake President. Encouragement followed by advice I'm choosing to follow.
13. Varying levels of sickies around here, but we are all sleeping. A lot. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

The Thanksgiving of my dreams
I like a simple November Calendar
I might be a groupie
Check out these Boston pics from one of my favorite photogs. (As if I'm not excited enough. And I've ordered MORE film. I'm taking ridiculous amounts of film. Prepared for loads of visual loveliness).
JCrew Spring Preview. Floor length sequin skirt? Yes, please.
THIS might be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
A good review of how to set a table.

P.S. If L eats one more tube of chapstick, vaseline, or lip gloss I'm going to lose it.

Great Art

“Great artists are people who find the way to be themselves in their art.
Any sort of pretension induces mediocrity in art and life alike.”

Prepare yourself for cuteness you can't even handle

Mr. Curls likes his beverages....

...and his fruit snacks

OK, I might be obsessed with the curls and his cuteness and how he always chooses to chill in this spot during play group. I never paid attention to the light right here until he started making it his. (kitchen counter) but it's nice. Really nice.

P.S. And I promise not to post photos of the play group kids ALL THE TIME. Just sometimes.

another P.S. I'll be photographing him again this weekend. Prepare yourself for family pictures you cannot. even. handle.

eeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

Daily Life: (untitled)

I like this one a lot.
Because sometimes it's a whole lot of nothing around here.
