Why film?

Digital = imagination endangered

Watch this CNN clip. A great listen. Wisdom from Mr. Elliott Erwitt.

Preach. the soapbox. Whatever you want to call it.....

So peeps, I've got no way of uploading pics until we figure out our computer sitch. Which pains me because I love to blog. And new images are waiting for me at the lab. Kind of excited about them ( but I feel that way every time ). So for now, I'll be posting lots of little nuggets why film can and does blow your mind. Mostly words from people more eloquent than me. Get ready to become a film snob.

Oh, and how about some family picture wardrobe planning? Eeeee! My fave.

High on a mountain top

{this is my favorite pic from the whole day. It just feels right.}

Miss L was easily bribed with M&M's. She wasn't feeling the mountains. Or the height of it all. But then again "She's not feeling it" could be said of every one of our family outings.

These are a success for me simply because of the direct sunlight factor. I avoid it like the plague. But it couldn't be avoided on this outing. So I tried to embrace it. Overall these are a big fat ....Not bad.

The Good Report

Hmmm, what can I say about this week? Our desktop computer died and since it is considered "vintage" the repair is $1000. what??? Looking at used Macs to replace. Those lights came back on in the car which means we can blow $400+ this week. Good times. Jeff dropped his phone and shattered the glass. More blowing of cash. I need a filling replaced. Uh, what else? Major awareness of flaws and fears resulting in me in a puddle of tears in Jeff's arms.

But......

1. Shorter haircut means I can get ready in about 5 seconds.
2. A day of absolutely nothing at my sister's. And some more produce from her garden.
3. Minus that filling....fantastic news from the dentist. All my little efforts are paying off.
4. A gorgeous morning at the park with the girls. Cool breezes and tons of shade.
5. And seeing things I'd never noticed before...and having my camera with me to capture it. Best part of my whole week.
6. $1 to $2 shorts and tees SALE for L. Next summer is totally covered.

Is it just me or is August flying by? I don't mind. I thrive when the temps go down.

Oliver + S Fall patterns revealed
I need to make these blocks. Super cool, modern.
Hammock House. Oh yeah!
My favorite photos this week.

That's how it's done. The right way. Words cannot express how much I hate the hipstamatic app. Ugh.

She says, "I want to be 16 like Kaija."
That's her cousin. Who is actually 9.

Unkempt bed

I always make our bed. It makes me feel like I have a handle on things. But it's the messy ones that are the most inviting.

Teary eyed

I have a favorite photo of myself around this same age. I'm sobbing my eyes out. Not sure why I like it. I just do.

So much of childhood is spent exactly this way. I felt the need to photograph it. (Still trying to photograph one of L's wicked tantrums too).

My nieces were trying to help me photograph her sweetly napping in the most glorious window light. On the most beautiful unkempt bed. Just her tiny head peeking out from the covers. But it was too much noise/movement for her and she woke up.

M rarely cries. She's a happy, mischeivous, content one. Rolls with all the punches L throws her way. Gets up just as fast as she goes down. I hope she keeps these traits her whole life. They are priceless.

A new discovery: the afternoon light in my nephew's bedroom. I'll be photographing there more often. Excited!

The Red Barn

I like it here. And they have the mintiest of mint chip icecream. My fave.

I heart her shoes. Broken in and awesome.

The Good Report

1. Made it home safely after THREE different warning lights came on in the car.
2. Local auto repair was able to look at it right away. Ran all the tests and reset those lights. Now, we wait.
3. (here's hoping they don't come on again = $400+ in repairs). Last night I dreamt even more came on.
4. They also found the part we need for our trunk. (I broke the handle off). And cheaper than I expected.
5. All of our house guests forced me to clean the sewing room. It's spotless. Which means I can take on some projects again.
6. Friends of MS picked up my emotional baggage.
7. I also cleared more of the garage. I really love having room to move.
8. Watching L at cheer camp was adorable. She surprised us all when she actually performed in front of everyone at the football scrimmage.

P.S. I think it's time to start another quilt.

Dream House
Autumn POP...oooo so pretty
Photographer's might want to read THIS.
Something completely different. Wow.

from here (a great read)
Yeah, that about sums it up. And kind of true even if you're not a photog.

Beff-ee-uh

{That's how M pronounces her name}

I love these photos. A lot.
B is full of life.

Lovely light courtesy of my sister's garage. Mmmm. I like.

Little ladies

M, Olivia Nelson, Ally Christiansen, Evie Shaw, and L
(for the record....you know, like 20 years down the road when I can't remember a thing)

L has been having fun at cheer camp this week. Running around crazy with her ward buddies mostly. Tomorrow is the big day (performance). I have no expectations. Ok, yes I do. I predict L will clench my leg like she is dying the entire time.

P.S. My favorite is M's expression in this photo.

Saturday at 11,000 Feet

We rode the tram to the top. And spent the day with our nephew, Dallas. It was so beautiful up there. I wish we had more time.

I pretty much love this new toy of ours.
{I also shot some on my Mamiya so you'll be seeing that later}.
