I needed this one today

After getting five rolls of scans back and only posting a fraction of them, I'm feeling a little defeated.  This doesn't really happen to me.  My feelings are magnified by the fact that I thought I shot some of my best work ever.  Ugh.

Am I regressing, or just getting more picky and discerning? The answer to that questions changes daily.

I would really like to have full rolls of flawless.  Really.  So frustrated today.

Why is my timing so off?  I could make excuses like that I'm photographing five year olds and two year olds that don't give a crap about photographs or what I want them to do.  But geez, aren't I used to all that by now?  Anticipating their moves should be second nature.

My great ideas + mediocre results = disappointment and frustration.

I feel so close to really breaking through.
Trying to tell myself to calm down and trust the process because part of the process is mistakes and "almost there" photographs.

An incredible surge in mediocrity

Couldn't have said it better myself

Wow.

I can see your halo

I'm loving my ongoing personal series of found halos.
I can see this one lasting the years while they grow.
These are so close for me.  But not quite.  I'm struggling with getting the right expression from her.
Fail.
And the light.  It's ok.
And I think I hate the softness of 3200 for these.  (So I reshot in color and also exposed differently)

The good report

1.  The girls are loving swim lessons.
2.  Holy cow, June is giving some mild temps.
3.  Finished the quilt for baby Garrett.
4.  It's really happening.  I have to pinch myself.... Family portraits with Yan (in August).  Eeeeeeee!!!
5.  Jeff is totally loving his Heber route.  He texts me the most beautiful pictures all the time.
6.  But mostly having a happy husband warms my heart.
7.  White peaches are back at Costco.  That fruit is unreal good.
8.  Em introduced me to the first pork chop recipe that does not yield rubber band texture.
9.  Interior meet-up with the home builder.
10. And Em watched the girls for us the whole time.
11.  Lunch at a favorite place.  Just Jeff and I.  And awesome catching up with each other convo.
12.  Followed by the swimming pool.
13.  We took Em's kids too.  I think living close to family has some serious perks.
14.  Seriously flattering compliments from Alisha.  Kind words.  She's my biggest fan.
15.  I took some killer photos of the girls this week that I'm really excited about.
16.  Only one hour of church today.  Woohoo!

The skirt of my dreams.  Pockets!  I'm only sad I missed out on more colors cuz that bright green would have rocked my world.
For a mere $1800 I could have the colored kitchen sink of my dreams. Dang!  I love it.
This dress went on sale for E.  Which is good because I've been stalking it for months.
I think I'll get off facebook again.  Just bored this time.  Not irritated.

Photography truth

the printed photo – like the handwritten letter –
will always have a place as the keeper of our stories

I just loved this when I read it.  Especially since I'm near completion of a book full of our stories.  I'm trying to fill my longing for the tangible photograph and images we can hold in our hands.  It's been too long since we cruised through albums.

Color me mine

I keep being drawn to this color scheme for the main areas of the new house. (minus the dusty blues)
Especially that bright blue.  Ooo, it's lovely.
Also known as cobalt.
Also known as Egyptian blue.

White cabinets, black countertops, black kitchen table, with little pops of that yellow and blue everywhere.  Oh yes, you will be mine.

These barstools are calling my name.

It's about time

I feel like my photographs are starting to get good.

I admitted this to a friend a few weeks ago.  And seriously, I mean it.

It's a big deal for me to feel this way.

The good report

1.  Got caught up on editing our family album.
2.  An afternoon at the splash park.
3.  Our allergy symptoms are finally gone.
4.  E started walking four to five steps at a time.
5.  Just discovered Ryan Innes will be the headliner in September.  Yeeeeeeeesssss!  Be there.  Or miss out on his raspy goodness.
6.  Totally inspired by my niece's dance recital.  I love the arts.
7.  My heart just about jumped out of my chest watching sweet little M's reaction to it all.  That girl was into it.  Signing her up.
8.  Hiked The Grotto.  Um, awesome.  Perfect for the littles.
9.  A microburst (one of the strangest things I've ever experienced) blew over Jeff's motorcycle like it was nothing.  Luckily, damage is minimal.
10.  More swimming.
11.  Man of Steel in 3D.  Totally awesome except for the longest fight scene ever.  That got a little boring.  Henry Cavill (not boring)....Holy smokes!

I want one of the girls.  Real bad.
Can. Not. Wait.
Chicken gyros.  This recipe will be a repeat for sure.  It's so, so good. Just make it.
And this beef brisket was good, but even better when added to this chicken wrap.  Not a huge fan of the wrap without the brisket.  It needs the brisket.

The Super Femme

I love me some Hannah.
She's such a unique beauty.

I've been photographing Hannah since she was tiny.  She's always been unafraid of the camera.
